Desiree Cunningham is a Nurse practitioner working at Swedish Hospital Northshore in the hospital medicine department. She initially attended Oak Point University, formerly West Suburban College of Nursing in Chicago, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009. Desiree has worked in many specialty areas of nursing, including the medical/surgical, neuro, telemetry, emergency room, operating room, and special procedures, making her a diversified clinical nurse professional. While working full-time as an R.N. at the University of Chicago Medical Center, she completed a Master of Science in Nursing with a subspecialty in Family medicine. She graduated from Chamberlain College of Nursing in July 2016. Desiree is a certified family nurse practitioner licensed in Illinois. Ms. Cunningham is passionate about education, so she attends Oak Point University to complete her Doctor of Nursing Practice.
Over the years in nursing, she has worked in many leadership roles, including charge nurse, preceptor, mentor, and nurse practitioner. Her clinical practice for the last six years has been acute Care in hospital medicine, admitting acutely ill patients to medical, surgical, and telemetry units. She has worked diligently to maintain an AANP Family Nurse Practitioner certification and is dedicated to maintaining clinical and educational competency throughout her career.
As an Advanced Practice Nurse, my career focus and passion for patient care has always been health promotion and prevention. A lifetime goal is to increase awareness and knowledge of geriatric and senior Care due to the disproportionate rate of seniors not adequately cared for.
